Explore the pristine dunes of the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore on this guided, outdoor adventure from Frankfort, Michigan. Travel along the shore's brilliant beaches and rich hiking trails with this special tour that touches on some of the great highlights of the area, including shipwrecks and the only waterfall along miles of Lake Michigan shoreline. All entry fees are included.

This guided tour begins at 'Moosehall,' the home base of operations, for an early breakfast and start to the day.

Then enjoy a chance to paddle a nearby lake until it joins the larger Lake Michigan before a break for lunch and quest to find a shipwreck.

Next, a coastal hike along the lake shore will lead to some of the most stunning vistas in the state. If time allows, travel to several other rewarding hikes in the area, or enjoy Frankfort itself, complete with recommendations on the best restaurants in town.

Some of the many possibilities on this tour include viewing the aforementioned shipwreck (or two), depending on the weather. Paddle along Lower Herring Lake; hike a variety of local trails, both through the forest and along the beach; swim in Lake Michigan; hike up to one of the highest points in the region.

Lunch will be provided and will include both a healthy travel lunch and snacks throughout the day. Due to the early end of the trip, dinner is not included but recommendations will be made for a number of popular food destinations in the area.

We invite you to join us at “Moosehall,” our base of operations, for breakfast and start to the day. We will look over maps of the area and discuss our route, than we will either walk or shuttle to the trailhead, depending on your specific route.

Our coastal hike will take us along the most beautiful shoreline of Lake Michigan, through several forests, across up to two rivers, and even to a hidden waterfall on our property.

Possibilities include:

  • Viewing a shipwreck (or two) - weather dependent
  • Hiking along a variety of local trails, both through the forest and along the beach
  • Swimming in Lake Michigan
  • Hiking up to one of the highest points in the region
  • Learning more about the local ecology
  • Private campgrounds every night, with a view of the sunset
All meals will be provided, and will include both a healthy travel lunch and snacks throughout the day. Tents, stoves, and other group camping equipment provided - you will need to bring your own footwear and personal gear. Some personal gear (clothes, backpacks, etc...) available for rent at Moosehall, our base of operations.

Walk alongside the waves, in the sun, and through spectacular forests. Visit lower Michigan's largest wilderness area, a vast expanse of sandy dunes and rich green forests. All entry fees are included. Customize the tour to individual preferences. Choose from a 1- or 3-night stay, depending on selection. Lunch and snacks are provided.

Meet at the wilderness trailhead to review the maps of the area and enjoy a snack. Then plan the route through both the park and wilderness. Explore both large and small lakes, including one that looks almost like an African watering hole in the middle of northern Michigan.

Seek out campsites near the shoreline, eat dinner in front of spectacular sunsets, set out for a day along the beach to see a lighthouse, and more. Much of this trip can be customized to suit individual needs, fitness levels, and interests.

All meals will be provided, and will include both a healthy travel lunch and snacks throughout the day. Tents, stoves, and other group camping equipment is provided.
